Re: Slow backup speed to network SOFS shares
Can you try to back up to a non-SOFS share on a fast network, and compare the performance of SOFS and non-SOFS shares?

Re: Slow backup speed to network SOFS shares
Backing up to a virtual tape on a local disk (without SOFS involved) would give you an indication of the maximum transfer rate you should expect. If the local transfer rate significantly differs from the SOFS transfer rate, then it's a problem with SOFS because Firestreamer writes virtual tapes in t...

Re: Slow backup speed to network SOFS shares
The key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\clfs3chr\Parameters should be already present. The other settings I mentioned are values , not keys. You need to create them. Have you tried copying a big file (several GB in size) from the DPM VM to the network share using Windows Explorer?

Re: Slow backup speed to network SOFS shares
No, you don't need to do anything apart from changing the registry. The settings are applied each time a tape is loaded.

Re: Slow backup speed to network SOFS shares
Firestreamer makes no distinction between local disks and network shares. All virtual tape files are opened with the same API call: OBJECT_ATTRIBUTES tObjAttr; InitializeObjectAttributes( &tObjAttr, <file name>, OBJ_CASE_INSENSITIVE | OBJ_KERNEL_HANDLE | OBJ_FORCE_ACCESS_CHECK, NULL, NULL ); DWO...

Re: Best Practice to create the No of tape slot
Please refer to How many tapes of which sizes should I use?Last question, will it be better to have a bigger drive or many No of small drive. Like I have 2TB Disk as Tape drive, when create media file, it is good to make it 10 Drive @ 200G each, or 20 drive @ 100G each?

Re: Best Practice to create the No of tape slot
1 drive and 10 slot initially, to speed up the backup performance I am not sure how changing the number of tapes drives/slots from default 5/200 to 1/10 can possibly increase performance. 200 sounds too much, all appear on the hard drive and make confusion There are "slots" and there are ...

Re: Best Practice to create the No of tape slot
Why did you need to reduce the number of slots from 200 to 10? We do not recommend changing the default configuration of 5 tape drives / 200 slots, unless you really need to. For Firestreamer, it's not a problem. But from DPM's and your standpoint, every time you change Firestreamer's configuration,...

Re: De-duplication Of .fsrm file in Server 2012
We've reconsidered the problem as follows. Like a physical tape library, Firestreamer is not supposed to deduplicate data written to tapes as that defeats the purpose of tape backups. For example, if Firestreamer or the underlying storage deduplicated two similar tapes into a single copy of data on ...

Re: DPM 2012 R2 backups to Tape and VTL
It looks correct, though I repeat we are not in the position to advise on Microsoft DPM configuration.
