Re: How to setup Filestreamer with iSCSI on Windows 2003?
It makes no difference to Firestreamer whether you want to use it locally or via iSCSI. You need to install iSCSI target software on the server with Firestreamer, and expose the media changer and the tape drives as iSCSI targets. On the other server, you need to install iSCSI initiator software and ...

What is the best backup strategy for my environment?
What is the best backup strategy for my environment, and how do I implement it with Firestreamer? For example, I use Microsoft DPM and I have several external 2TB disk drives. I want to rotate the drives on a weekly basis. How can I do it? Also, I would like to label the drives Week1, Week2, etc. H...

How many tapes of which sizes should I use?
With Firestreamer file media , you can easily choose the number and size of virtual tapes to suit your needs. When doing so, consider the following: Firestreamer is unaware of the nature of data written to virtual tapes. The optimal number and maximum size of tapes ultimately depend on the logic bui...

Microsoft DPM is asking for free tape
My backup jobs fail because Microsoft DPM is asking for a free tape. The best way to resolve the problem is to provide Microsoft DPM with free tapes. With Firestreamer file media, it's easy to create as many tapes as needed. If you use drive media and want to increase utilization of virtual tapes, ...

I don't know where to start
I don’t know where to start. The whole thing is just mysterious to me. Firestreamer is used in almost exactly the same way as a physical tape library. The only difference is that the tapes are virtual. Familiarize yourself with Firestreamer Basic Concepts and the documentation for your backup sof...

Re: Unable to open the medium - Device not ready
Are you saying that Firestreamer cannot open particular files at all, and "Device not ready" is displayed for those files, but other .fsrm files on the same disk work fine? If so then it looks like a disk problem. Is it possible, that just a few specific files on a disc can be corrupt and ...

Re: Unable to open the medium - Device not ready
Hi Felix, The "Device not ready" error (C0000013) comes from Windows when Firestreamer tries to open the file. It may indicate a faulty HDD (is that what you are using?). It's also possible that you have the power saving feature enabled for your HDD or the storage controller (for example, ...

Re: tape loaded no job running
Thank you for your feedback. All we (and anyone else in our position) can do is contact the DPM team at Microsoft and ask them to investigate the issue which they already know about. I will update this topic if we have any news.

Re: tape loaded no job running
Dave, The problem is specific to Microsoft DPM because it happens not only with Firestreamer but with physical tape libraries, too. You can easily confirm it by searching the Internet. If you looked at the post that I mentioned in my original reply, you would see a Microsoft representative essential...
